Maybe ensure that previous pairings have first been removed from both devices and do a re-start of the phone prior to trying it all again. Yeah I have tried deleting all the pairings, I have cleared cache and data from the bluetooth on my phone, I have tried pairing a different phone . all does the same thing!

I have an OnePlus 6 and a Skoda Superb and had the same issue. I had to set the default USB configuration in PTP. After that, it worked okay. Sometimes AA takes a while to connect. I read on OnePlus forums, that thats a common problem with my phone after the Android 10 update. I guess you may experience something similar.

When connecting via cable I get prompted and my phone says "android Connected" however my car says "sorry cannot connect". Previous S10+ phone worked perfectly.
Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo: If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
